Angelica Joni

Introduce Yourself:

A Local New Yorker pursuing her musical journey!! That’s me! Angelica Joni my actually name BTW! I’m a lover of animals, all things dogs, travel the ocean and family. I am very

competitive and I love a good challenge! Like many of my peers I started out in church singing in the choir at age 6 then classically trained in HS fast forward 20 years. Currently I’m writing Recording collaborating and continuing this innate passion of mine called the music industry and I’m so looking forward to live performances once again.

I have achieved some amazing accolades for an indie artist... for any artist. I have been fortunate that the dance community embraces my writing and performance abilities and this has enabled me to top the Billboard Dance Club Charts three times thus far in my professional career. One of these “Exhale” hitting top 15! I myself have recorded Exhale in 3 languages and it has garnered hundreds of thousands of Spotify streams. Other highlights have come by having the support of the LGBT community they have had my back and have booked me on some top Pride events. One of which which had me open for Jordin Sparks at Asbury Pride in front of a roaring crowd of more than 15,000 fans!!! It’s been one of my all time best experiences!

How would you describe your music?

I would describe my music as a feel good, head bobbing, foot tapping sound in the EDM / pop lane.

Who are your main musical influences?

I’ve been inspired by a lot of different artists with unique songs and voices but the ones that I relate to the most are Jessie Reyez, Krewella, Beyonce, LP, David Guetta, Alicia Keys and Borgeous just to name a few.

What is your top five favorite songs of all time? Why those songs?

I do not think I could easily respond... these are to numerous to list!

Of your own music, do you have a favorite? If so, can you pin down why it is your favorite?

Hmmmm tough question but I would have to say my favorite thus far is “Weightless” which was the first song I ever released myself as an Indie Artist. The vibe of the song just makes you smile. It’s one that has always been a fan favorite and has a special place in my heart!

What are your ambitions as a songwriter and musician from here?

I write with the hope that my fans can appreciate and relate to my lyrics. A lot of what I write comes from personal experience or feelings and I try to write about what other people have gone through as well. So, they feel more of a connection to my songs. In my opinion, when a person makes a connection to the lyrics of a song they can either bring you right back to a special event or moments in your life time or on the other hand music can also help you forget anything that you wish to forget. For me, music is what feelings sound like. Therefore, my lyrics are the most important element within a song. If I’m trying to reach an audience and have them experience these feelings, my ambition is to connect lyrically through my words and to have the audience assist give it legs and help bring it to life! I work very hard on my lyrics. My choice of words is how I convey the sentiment I wish to express.

What draws you to your preferred genre?

While I dabble in Pop, I finally have found the music genre that really makes my heart skip a beat and one that I love to write to and perform to. My music is fun...Its that Pop/dance/EDM feel that keeps the crowd moving the fans engaged. To hear my tracks being mixed by Club DJ’s and having the audience engage is the ultimate!!!!

I fell in love with dance music and the energy people give off when they hear the drop in a kick ass EDM song. There’s something about dance music that amazes me and always puts me in a good mood.

Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow in your footsteps?

I would say to those who are pursuing a career as an artist and/or songwriter to digest and dissect their favorite songs from other artists and see what you can learn from them whether it’s the way they write or the tracks they create. I find a lot of my inspiration comes from mimicking a similar vibe / sound from artists I listen to daily. Also, the more you write the better you get at it!
